Zalgiris takes the loss in last-second drama against Rytas 33
Zalgiris suffered a last-second loss in the Betsafe-LKL, as they were handed an 85-86 defeat by Rytas Vilnius in Zalgirio Arena.
The green-and-whites got off to a strong start, coming out hot to a 15-5 start. Nevertheless, the guests managed to return the run and Zalgiris faced a two-point deficit after the opening quarter. The tooth-and-nail affair continued throughout the rest of the game, with neither side managing to get a grasp of a tangible lead.
The final quarter was all-out offense, as Thomas Walkup led the green-and-whites with 13 points in the last 10 minutes alone. As the teams exchanged basket after basket, the visitors had the final possession where they drew Augustine Rubit’s foul and put the game to bed with a made free-throw, leaving no time for Zalgiris to respond.
Walkup ended the night with a team-high 21 points, as Marius Grigonis chipped in with 14 points and 6 assists. Lukas Lekavicius ended the game with 13 points, as Martinas Geben dropped 12.
