Third-quarter spurt guides Zalgiris past Pieno Zvaigzdes 3

Zalgiris claimed the team’s 29th victory and secured the top spot in the Betsafe-LKL regular season standings, as they brushed aside Pieno Zvaigzdes 107-83.

The Pasvalys side went at the defending Lithuanian champions from the opening minutes, as they took a slight lead in the first quarter. Nevertheless, the balance shifted to Zalgiris’ favor after the break, as the green-and-whites blew their opposition out of the water winning the third quarter by a whopping 24 points.

With 28 points separating the two sides before the final period, the game had already been settled, and the only uncertainty was the winning margin for Zalgiris. With some balanced scoring from the enire line-up, Zalgiris took the 107-83 victory.

Nigel Hayes was the game’s top scorer with 18 points and 4 assists. Karolis Lukosiunas added a dozen, as Marius Grigonis and Rokas Jokubaitis finished up with 11 apiece. Thomas Walkup chipped in with 8.
