Zalgiris starts off title defense with a big win over Rytas 5
The green-and-whites successfully began their Betsafe-LKL Finals series in Zalgirio Arena, as they took a 90-75 victory over Rytas Vilnius. With this victory, Zalgiris takes the upper hand with a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
The two sides exchanged baskets throughout the first quarter, with a stalemate to show after 10 minutes of action, 23-23. Nevertheless, the hosts locked the opposition down in the second period, winning it 28-12 to go up by 16 before the break.
While the visitors made attempts to cut into the margin, Zalgiris kept a safe distance and entered the final quarter up by a dozen. With solid play from Joffrey Lauvergne in the painted area, the green-and-whites kept focus to win the game by 15.
Lauvergne tallied a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Lukas Lekavicius added 12 points. Martinas Geben and Augustine Rubit went hard in the paint, contributing 10 points apiece, with the latter also adding 7 rebounds. Thomas Walkup had 7 assists to go along his 9 points, as Nigel Hayes also dropped 9.
