Changes made in Zalgiris’ coaching staff 14
As Zalgiris continues forming its roster for the upcoming season, the coaching ranks will see some changes as well. The Lithuanian champions have signed an Austrian specialist, Stefan Grassegger.
The 31-year-old coach spent the last two seasons as the head coach of the Vienna Timberwolves after having worked as an assistant for the Timberwolves and Traiskirchen Arkadia.
He and Martin Schiller have known each other for a long time, as Schiller was the one who pushed him towards a coaching career, inviting an 18-year-old Grassegger to join the youth team coaching ranks.
After rising up the coaching ranks in Vienna, Grassegger has been working with the Austrian national team since 2016, where he was also an assistant to Kestutis Kemzura.
He will replace Evaldas Berzininkaitis in the Zalgiris coaching staff. Berzininkaitis, who’s spent 8 years on the sidelines in Kaunas, is currently working with the Lithuanian national team.
Meanwhile, Zalgiris’ international scout Algimantas Bruzas decided to shift his career a different direction and will be leaving the team at the start of July.
Coaches Arne Woltmann and Tautvydas Sabonis will continue working alongside Martin Schiller next season, as will physical preparation coaches Sigitas Kavaliauskas and Nerijus Navickas, doctor Vytautas Kailius and physiotherapist Paulius Jacikas.
