Lokomotiv comes on top in Gloria Cup opener 16
Zalgiris Kaunas lost 69-76 (18-20, 16-20, 11-19, 24-17) to Lokomotiv Krasnodar in the Gloria Cup opener in Turkey.
It was the second win for Loko against Zalgiris. Last week the Russian club won 88-87 in Kaunas.
Today Lokomotiv took control in the third quarter. Darius Thompson knocked down a 3-pointer and made a dunk, Sergey Dolinin added a lay-up, while Lokomotiv made an 11-2 run and built a 13-points lead (55-42).
Zalgiris managed to cut the deficit to 7 points (58-65) in the middle of the fourth quarter, but that didn’t cause a lot of problems for Lokomotiv, which finished the game in a comfortable fashion.
For the winners, Jonathan Motley scored 21 points (8/10 2PT, 5/6 FT), and added 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, and 34 EFF.
Darius Thompson added 18 points (3/6 2PT, 3/5 3PT, 3/3 FT), 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover, and 17 EFF.
Zalgiris’ leader was Joffrey Lauvergne, who finished with 17 points (6/12 2PT, 5/6 FT), 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals, 1 turnover, and 17 EFF.
In their upcoming Gloria Cup tournament game, Zalgiris will face Tofas Bursa, whilst Lokomotiv will play against Anadolu Efes Istanbul.
