Zalgiris parts ways with Coach Schiller 70
Martin Schiller is set to depart from Zalgiris Kaunas. After a start of the season marked with two losses in the EuroLeague and uninspiring performances in the pre-season and Betsafe-LKL championship, the club has decided to part ways with the coach.
“It’s obvious the team isn’t playing the way we want it to be playing. A couple days ago we mentioned that everybody needs to take responsibility. The sight in yesterday’s game wasn’t convincing, and we couldn’t waste precious time. Thus, we decided to take action,” – noted Zalgiris director Paulius Motiejunas.
“It doesn’t mean that everything that Martin Schiller was doing was bad. In the 15 months together we’ve taken a lot of positive things. We thank him for his work and his dedication for Zalgiris.”
Zalgiris didn’t win a single game in the preparations for the season, had trouble in the opening games of the Betsafe-LKL, and started its EuroLeague season with losses against ASVEL and Zenit.
Arne Woltmann will be in charge of Zalgiris’ next game, as the green-and-whites take on Neptunas in Zalgirio Arena on Sunday.
Meanwhile, 54-year-old Slovenian specialist Jure Zdovc will take over the head coaching reigns after finishing the formalities in the contract agreement.
