Green-and-whites urge to stop Russian aggression and help support Ukraine 2

The week-long cruelties in Ukraine continue after an invasion by Russian forces into Ukrainian territory. Zalgiris basketball players alongside the entire organization urges to not stay indifferent and support our brothers and sisters in Ukraine.

Zalgiris has always advocated for freedom and democracy, and was the first to condemn Russia’s actions in front of the entire EuroLeague, refusing to play against Russian clubs and appealing to remove them from the competition.

“We are all different and unique, but the same in one sense – we are all free. We are united by an unwavering belief in freedom and an endless desire to preserve it. Let us enjoy freedom and help those who are having their freedom taken away. We see how strong the sense of unity is. The employees of our organization contribute in various ways – some have registered to receive Ukrainians at home, others have volunteered or provided financial or material support. If possible, we invite you to contribute and help Ukraine, in whatever way you can” – Zalgiris director Paulius Motiejunas addressed the fans.

The organization of Zalgiris Kaunas joined an initiative and together with three other companies organized a shipment of medicines worth 18 thousand euros to Ukraine, which has left Lithuania on Thursday morning.

The green-and-whites, with captain Paulius Jankunas at the forefront, were not indifferent to the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian population.

“We, Zalgiris players, cannot stay indifferent, when our brothers and sisters in Ukraine are fighting a heroic fight and against an aggressor – Russia. Join in on the support for Ukraine. Don’t be indifferent. Slava Ukraini!” – pointed out Jankunas.

The Zalgiris organization invites fans to continue helping Ukraine and its people in any possible way. Some of the most active organizations currently are https://www.blue-yellow.lt and https://stipruskartu.lt.

There are other ways to contribute to the well-being of Ukrainians. People are invited to volunteer at the Lithuanian Red Cross and other organizations, to take Ukrainians fleeing the war to their homes, to contribute clothes, food and medicine.

Zalgiris also invites its fans to come to the March 11 celebrations of Lithuania’s Independence Day with the flags of Ukraine and Lithuania in the face-off against FC Barcelona taking place in Zalgirio Arena.
