UEFA Futsal Champions League in Kaunas: where are the similarities between captains Jankunas and Zagurskas? 1
On the 26-29th of October, Zalgirio Arena will host the UEFA Futsal Champions League group phase, where Kauno Zalgiris will aim for a spot among Europe’s top 16 clubs.
The Lithuanian champions will battle against Spanish giants Barcelona and Levante and the champions of Belarus, Viten Orsa, with a game played between each of the four teams. To move forward, the Kaunas side will have to beat at least one opponent in the standings.
With less than a month until the first game in Zalgirio Arena, we looked at some similarities between the basketball and futsal clubs, both playing in Europe’s top league, with one of the first comparisons drawn between respective Zalgiris captains Paulius Jankunas and Justinas Zagurskas.
“Captains of all the teams have some similarities, especially when we’re all in the same organization, playing for the same team, country and city. Paulius is a fine example of what being a captain is,” – noted Zagurskas.
Both Jankunas and Zagurskas have more similarities besides just being Zalgiris captains – both of them have spent a long time under one team, both of them are repeat country champions, both of them have gone abroad to play and have represented the national team on multiple occasions.
“There are similarities for sure, that’s why we can understand each other. This club needs personalities, and I noticed Justinas’ leadership qualities during the World Cup,” – agreed Paulius Jankunas.
The futsal club captain Justinas Zagurskas had a message to the fans, inviting them to come support their beloved colors.
“The futsal World Cup was a nice celebration, and with almost 9 thousand people in the stands for the final, it was truly impressive. We’d love the support in the Champions League games as well, as we’ll truly need it!”
Ticket sales have already started, and with a purchase, fans will be able to watch two games of the highest caliber each day, with all four teams playing a match between each other.
