Zalgiris esports team successful in BESL finals 0

The Estonian capital Tallinn invited esports fans to the Baltic esports league (BESL) finals, where Zalgiris’ League of Legends team represented the green-and-whites.

The second BESL season tipped off in mid-August, with Zalgiris splitting the series with Turing Esports, 1-1. As the season caught momentum, Zalgiris kept on piling up the wins and stood first in the standings up until the very last week.

In spite of a small shuffle in the roster mid-season, Zalgiris could not retain the top position and finished second just a point behind another Lithuanian team, the Iron Wolves.

This year, the BESL finals were held during the HyperTown technology and esports festival, as the Paldiski Arena first paired the Zalgiris esports team with Latvian side Team Coinflip Gaming, who had finished the regular season in sixth place. Despite a slow start, the Lithuanians made use of a couple vital mistakes from their opponents and jumped right out to a 1-0 start. The second game was a one-sided affair, lasting just 24 minutes to have Zalgiris easily move on to the final.

Zalgiris matched up against their very first opponent of the season, Turing Esports, in the final. Whilst the start of the game seemed promising, as Zalgiris caught their opponents off-guard, they were unable to finish the game strong and allowed their opponents to rake in the comeback victory. The Kaunas side could not manage to overturn the series and brought home silver.

“All we needed was a second to calmly consider the situation so we could concentrate and continue playing by our winning condition and macro game”, noted bottom lane ADC player Redas “Frexey” Pakalnis.

Although the BESL season was long and action-packed, the fellas do not plan to rest too long. The team looks forward to getting back to work in the training camps held in Zalgirio Arena and start preparing for the new season.
